- Access to healthy food in diverse, under-served communities
- Leveraging redevelopment and and other federal, state and local public finance resources
- Expanded access to SNAP and new WIC foods in groceries and non-traditional markets
Low-income communities often lack access to fresh fruits and vegetables, and are overburdened with exposure to fast-food outlets and other unhealthy foods.
Healthy food retail is focused on improving access to food for communities experiencing inequities; creatively expanding the financial and technical support infrastructure for fresh food access; and facilitating cooperative actions among agencies and community groups. Spearheaded by collaborative leadership among advocacy organizations, youth and community leaders will develop strategies including grocery store attraction, corner store improvements, farmers markets, urban agriculture and community gardens.
